Direct Injection engines definitely come with advantages in fuel consumption
as well as yielding more power when compared to engine with the identical
displacement.
The N54 engine of the BMW 435i, 335i and135i or any S model Mini Cooper Engine
is a direct injection Engine; this means, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber
of each cylinder and not in the intake. As a consequence, fuel does not run down the
cylinder which would otherwise clean the valve; causing a build up of carbon deposits and
not allowing the engine to intake enough air.
